Wow, thats a close one. I think that the electric skillet used as a pan is the winner of "the dumbest". Perhaps I am biased juror because I had a bad experience with a frozen pizza too. I guess that I am partial to the error therefore I must be excused from jury duty.

Hi Bob,
I enjoyed your essay on your brothers' cooking disasters,
but I cannot find fault with them as I too have sinned.
Early in my marriage we lived in a small apartment.
I was cooking dinner and took a package of frozen
chicken from the freezer. Humm, I thought. I wonder
how to cook this. They were frozen solid but I managed
to pry the pieces apart. So I tossed them in the skillet.
I did not know that you had to DEFROST them first!
What a mess. I'll never forget it!
                        Love,Dad

although the frozen pizza episode is made more humurous & dramatic with great-grandma's comments (i can envision the scene in the living room -haha)...my vote is for the electric skillet. i mean, really, an electic skillet only very remotely could resemble a regular skillet or pan, the legs should have at least sparked the idea of asking what it was or how to use it. but have to admit, these stories don't surprise me LOL

Hmm tough one to call. I'm leaning towards the pizza, but a skillet with legs and a place to plug it in..... I'll abstain, as my mother taught us basic cooking skills when we were tall enough to see over the stove top.

I am going to have to vote frozen pizza. Because the main defense for each is their inexperience, I find it much more understandable that one had never encountered an electric skillet as opposed to having never seen a frozen pizza. All my children have heated up a frozen pizza, none of them as yet has used an electric skillet.

I have to vote for skillet too. While I do like the irony of using an electric skillet on a burner, I can understand placing a frozen pizza upside down as most of the time time the whitish substance that is supposed to be cheese does look a lot like cardboard.
